Covid19 Lockdown - Working from home you MUST read this!

So here we are in the middle of the covid19 lockdown here in the UK. One of the effects of this lockdown is that more people are ending up working from home. Now generally working from home on an ad hoc basis is something many people are doing these days. The difference now is that you might be doing it 5 days a week. So, it is no longer good enough to sit on the sofa with the laptop or even sitting on the bed as some people tell me they have done in the past. You must have a proper setup for working from home. The video below gives you a few ideas from me on how to achieve this. Once you have got you desk setup, we now have to look at how you move and keep active. We are currently restricted on how much time we can spend outside the house so why not do some quick little workouts at your desk. Below is a suggested workout from me to try and help. To Tilt or Not to Tilt - That is Indeed The Question

To tilt or not to tilt – that is indeed the question I suspect, anyone who has gone to either yoga or Pilates have been told about pelvic tilting. I certainly bang on about it both in my clinic and when I teach yoga. So why is pelvic tilting so important? I suspect one of the reasons why so many people talk about it is because most “normal” people haven't got a clue how to do it. Secondly, its actually quite a hard thing to teach someone to do, as it requires very fine motor control to do it well. And there it is, one of the most important reasons for learning to pelvic tilt well – fine motor control. By learning to very accurately and precisely tilt the pelvis you can then make many other exercises safer and more effective. And as a side effect of this you are building up your core muscles – now that is a good side effect if I ever saw one. My Foam roll routine

Foam rolling T his is my attempt at presenting a foam rolling routine for the legs that I do often. Foam rolling is a very useful self-treatment if done correctly. It can however also cause a lot of pain if you don’t consider the rationale behind foam rolling. I will try and keep this a brief as possible. F or most people you will need a blue smooth foam roll with a diameter of 15cm and a length of 45cm approximately. The colour denotes the density so don’t be tempted to buy an orange or black one because you like the colour better – they are really hard! So, what are we doing when we foam roll the muscles. Essentially, I think we a “squashing” the tissue against the underlying tissue and bone. This results in fluid being moved around and hopefully a stretching/relaxing effect on the muscles themselves. It is a form of self-massage and a way to encourage better circulation through the muscle tissue. N ow this is key – by far the easiest way to hurt you
